The children had a wonderful first day as they settled into their residential experience. They were introduced to the Scripture themes that would guide their week: the stories of Zacchaeus and the Road to Emmaus. These inspiring Gospel accounts encouraged pupils to reflect on their faith and the people they wished to keep in their thoughts and prayers during their time away.
Following dinner, the children created beautiful flowers for our focal tree, each containing heartfelt thoughts and prayers for someone special in their lives. This meaningful activity helped them focus on the values of love, gratitude and compassion.
The evening concluded with a reflective and thought-provoking Celebration of the Word before everyone headed back to their lodges for some well-earned relaxation, complete with pyjamas, hot chocolate and time together with friends.
Throughout the day, Year 5 demonstrated excellent manners, kindness and care for one another, making us incredibly proud.

Day Two: Walking Together in Faith
Another fun-filled day began with Pope Francis' Five Finger Prayer, providing an opportunity for pupils to reflect on the most important people in their lives and hold them in prayer.
After some free time and games, the children embarked on a hike inspired by their Scripture focus, The Road to Emmaus. Along the journey, they paused to consider important questions about their residential experience, including:
- What have I left behind to be here?
- What will I take away from this experience?
- What new skills have I developed?
These moments of reflection encouraged personal growth and a deeper appreciation of the opportunities the residential provides.
The previous evening also included a special Mass led by a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars, where pupils reflected on their experiences and gave thanks for the time they had shared together.
To round off the day, everyone enjoyed a fantastic disco karaoke party. The dance floor was full of energy, laughter and enthusiasm as pupils sang along to their favourite songs and celebrated another wonderful day together.
We are delighted with the way Year 5 have embraced every aspect of the residential so far. Their positive attitudes, thoughtful reflections and caring approach to one another have been a credit to St Bede's. We look forward to hearing about the rest of their adventures and experiences in the days ahead!
